Roosters to kick off season against Rabbitohs
The Sydney Roosters will kick off their 2019 NRL season against bitter rivals the South Sydney Rabbitohs on Friday night at the SCG.
The reigning premiers, led by halfback Cooper Cronk and captains Boyd Cordner and Jake Friend, will take on the Rabbitohs at the ground for the first time since 1993.
It will be an exciting matchup for the Tri-colours, who face off against a Wayne Bennett-coached Rabbitohs team, featuring the ‘Burgess boys’ and a backline led by Greg Inglis and Dane Gagai.
Roosters recruit Angus Crichton will also have his hands full against his old club, after being charged with protecting Cronk in his premiership debut with the club.
“Physically he is a machine,” Cronk said. “Considering that he had a shoulder reconstruction, he still throws tin around in the weights room like no other.
“He loves the contact. He loves getting down and rolling the sleeves up. I dare say with a little bit of emotion around the game, that is exactly what he is going to do.”
The likes of Luke Keary, Latrell Mitchell and Joseph Manu will face off against Rabbitohs Adam Reynolds, Cameron Murray and Cody Walker in what is shaping as a blockbuster Friday night clash.
It will be one of nine matches the club will play at the ground. Fans can pre-purchase tickets online via Ticketek.
