Super Rugby: NSW Waratahs v Melbourne Rebels
The Super Rugby season is in full swing and the pride of NSW rugby, the Waratahs, are geared up for a tantalising clash with the Melbourne Rebels.
Fans of running rugby will flock through the gates of the SCG as the Rebels trot out their world class backline boasting the likes of former QLD Reds and Wallabies stalwarts Quade Cooper and Will Genia, Matt Toomua and barnstorming winger Marika Koroibete.
The Waratahs are set to go toe-to-toe with the Rebels via their own star-studded backline including Kurtley Beale, Israel Folou, Adam Ashley-Cooper and Karmichael Hunt and although the match will be billed as a clash of the backline’s, the forwards platform may be the deciding factor.
Melbourne will be looking to improve on a strong 2018 season where they finished second to NSW in the Australian Conference and this match will be a yardstick to their chances of a tilt at the finals this year. The Waratahs have earmarked this clash as not only a crucial Super Rugby fixture but an important spotlight opportunity for Wallabies hopefuls as the international season looms.
The Sydney Cricket Ground will be bathed in light for this Saturday night match and the historical surrounds will play host to a bumper crowd expected to roll in from the pubs, bars and restaurants in the surrounding suburbs of Surry Hills and Paddington.
